“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” Psalm 119:105
When it’s pitch black, what do you reach for? Maybe your phone for a bit of light to guide you through a dark room? Or a light switch to brighten the space around you? Perhaps a flashlight to see outside at night as you finish up a few last-minute chores? Light is one of the most powerful resources we rely on daily. Think about it—how many lights do you have on right now? One, two, maybe five? Each one is connected to a network of wires and power sources to give you the light you need to do what’s in front of you. Light not only helps us accomplish tasks, but it also impacts how we feel.
Imagine for a moment that you’re in the middle of summer. The sun is shining on your face, warming you, with a gentle breeze on your cheeks. Hold onto that feeling for a moment. Now, picture that it’s pitch black. You’re still outside, but it’s cold, silent, and you can’t see anything around you. Think about that for a few seconds.
While some people love the night over the daylight, I know I felt more at peace in that summer scene. In the light, I could picture activities, possibilities, and all the things I could do simply because I could see.
God gives us this light, not only as a resource to help us but also as a way to draw us toward Him. Without light, we can’t see; His light is like the sun we experience every day, a constant reminder of His presence. It allows us to see each other, to notice emotions, reactions, and to make memories we’ll carry with us. Without God’s light, we wouldn’t be able to see Him in our lives or in the world around us. His creation, all around us, is infused with His light, guiding us to one another and ultimately to His kingdom.
Today, let’s celebrate the light He brings and the path He lights for us.

Prayer
God, you are the light in everything. When we can’t see, remind us that you are there. When we feel stuck, show us your light to guide us toward a new way of seeing. In moments of darkness, help us remember that you are present, burning brightly in our hearts. Your light never fades; it is constant, a source of strength and comfort for each of us. God, we are so grateful for your presence today and every day. Amen.
